
D.O. EMPORDA
Growers and winemakers in the vineyards of the Ampurdán - called the Empordà in Catalan - have turned their attention to healthier clones of vines and new fermentation technology. As a result this area promises to become a producer of high quality wines.
This Denomination is formed by 5600Ha. The principal grapes here are white Macabeo and Garnacha Blanca, and red Garnacha and Cariñena, which used to make up 82% of the vineyards, although that figure is falling today. Experimental grapes are doing increasingly well.
