D.O. PLA DE BAGES
Bages is a small but old winemaking area that has been enjoying a resurgence thanks to the work of pioneering bodegas who won regional DO status in 1995, then national status in 1998.
The vineyards lie mainly in the valleys of the River Llobregat and its tributaries, and are centred on the towns of Manresa, about 70 km northwest of Barcelona, and Artes, to the east of that.
Grapes here are a mix of traditional local red and white varieties - Garnacha blended with Ull de Llebre (red) and Picapoll (white) - plus new grapes introduced since the DO was formed.
